The Palacete Melo was built in 1833 by Commander Joaquim Moreira de Melo. It is located in an area that represents the romanticism of the 19th-century seaside resorts. After his death, the mansion had several owners, including people linked to Brazil.
In the 1940s, the industrialist Delfim Ferreira donated the mansion to the Narciso Ferreira Foundation, where it functioned as a seaside colony for children until 1974, allowing the children of workers from his factories to enjoy the beach during the summer.
The Palacete Melo was classified as a Building of Public Interest in 1986. This building is important for local history and is one of the few examples of seaside resorts.
After several recovery works, the mansion is now a Youth Hostel. It offers double rooms and dormitories, as well as living areas, a garden, and reading rooms.
The Noble Hall of the Palacete is a cultural space that tells the history of the building and offers activities open to the public.
The living rooms are decorated with reproductions of works by artists such as Sonia Delaunay and Julio, linked to the history of Vila do Conde and Portuguese modernism.
The Palacete Melo is located in the center of Vila do Conde, facilitating access to other attractions in the city and the beach.
