The Fisherman's Monument is located in the Caxinas area, in Vila do Conde, in an open space facing the sea. It is situated in a large square, marking the southern boundary of this coastal area and offering an unobstructed view of the ocean. Its position invites moments of contemplation, reflecting the maritime environment that surrounds it.
This bronze sculptural ensemble pays tribute to the life and arduous work of fishermen. Inaugurated on March 20, 1994, the monument is a representation of the courage and know-how of the men and women who, daily, face the adversities of the sea. The work is inspired by figures from the local community, seeking to express the resilience and ingenuity inherent in the art of fishing.
The creation of the Fisherman's Monument is by the brothers Carlos, Eduardo and Ramiro Bompastor, plastic artists with strong ties to Vila do Conde. The choice of bronze as a material gives the sculpture a solid and lasting presence, highlighting the symbolic strength that the monument embodies. Its artistic conception aims to perpetuate the memory and value of an ancestral activity, so central to the region's identity.
