The Casa do Morgado de São Bento was built in the late 17th century by Jacome Carneiro Barbosa, captain-major of Vila do Conde.
Originally belonging to the Barbosa family, the house was sold in 1855 to a minister of Queen D. Maria II.
It features a Mannerist architecture with a rectangular plan and a symmetrical facade, where the windows on the upper floor alternate with balconies.
In 1871, a new wing in neoclassical style was annexed, which blends well with the original structure.
The ground floor was for services, while the upper floor was for habitation. Some spaces still show vestiges of paintings and decorated ceilings.
The house is part of an architectural ensemble that includes the Casa de São Sebastião and a fountain, representing the urbanism of the 17th century in Vila do Conde.
It is currently a private property without legal protection.
