Located on the banks of the Ave River, in the coastal area of Vila do Conde, a city rich in history in the Porto district.
Built between 1599 and 1603 by Gaspar Manuel, a Portuguese navigator who worked on the India, China, and Japan routes. The chapel was possibly built in honor of Our Lady of Help (Nossa Senhora do Socorro).
This chapel has been classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1978.
Although small, the chapel stands out for its shape and roof that resemble oriental temples, a probable influence from the founder's travels. The structure is circular and has two elliptical bodies, giving it an original appearance.
Inside, visitors will find tile panels with representations of biblical scenes, creating a historical and artistic atmosphere in the space.
From the chapel's viewpoint, it is possible to observe a complete view of the right bank of the Ave River, extending to the estuary, a privileged point to appreciate the surrounding landscape.
