After being transported to the parish church of Bagunte, the image repeatedly disappeared from the altar, always reappearing in its original location. This event, which is said to have occurred three times, was interpreted by the community as a desire for the Lady to remain there. In response to this belief, a hermitage was erected on the site where the image manifested, giving rise to the current chapel and its invocation.
