Situated in the Gramido area, in Gondomar, this church stands on a slight plateau next to the parish cemetery. The churchyard offers a welcoming space, framed by stone walls and traditional tombs.
In the vicinity, the contrast between the historical design of the temple and the urban surroundings of residential buildings is noticeable, in a gentle transition between the past and the daily life of the village.
The current construction is built on the foundations of an ancient medieval church dedicated to São Veríssimo. During restoration works, the old stone altar, recognizable by the marks of time, was preserved.
Over the centuries, the temple has undergone adaptations, while maintaining its function as a community meeting point and place of worship, witnessing the various generations of parishioners.
Inside, natural light filters through stained-glass windows in the choir loft, creating a serene atmosphere. The white walls contrast with the wooden ceiling, emphasizing the simplicity of the space.
The rustic wooden pews and the fusion of exposed concrete in some walls with traditional decorative elements, such as statues of saints in side niches, are noteworthy.
From the front churchyard, a partial view of the Douro valley and the urban fabric of Gondomar can be seen, giving the space a contemplative character.
The adjacent cemetery, with old tombstones and angel sculptures, reinforces the sense of memory and continuity between the religious building and the surrounding landscape.
