The Episcopal Palace was the former residence of the city's bishops, located next to Porto Cathedral, in the historical heart of the city.
Classified as a National Monument since 1910, the Palace is an important historical and cultural landmark.
The famous architect Nicolau Nasoni, also responsible for remarkable works in the city, left his mark on the design of the west and south facades, with a Baroque architecture full of elegance and grandeur.
Being located in an elevated position, the building offers a privileged view over the historical center of Porto.
The structure stands out for its baroque windows, with a total of 24 on the upper floor, decorated with wrought iron balconies.
Between 1916 and 1956, the Palace served as the headquarters of the Porto City Council, while the City Hall was being built.
The Palace has spacious halls, filled with period furniture and an impressive noble staircase with rich decorative details, which do justice to the palatial style.
Currently, the building is owned by the State and has recently undergone restorations that have recovered its splendor.
Bishop D. Luís Pires was responsible for one of the major renovations, expanding the space and organizing the important library of the Palace.
