Opened in 1894 by Manuel Recarey, the restaurant is one of the historical establishments in the city of Porto.
It was famous for its "English-style steak," a specialty that paid homage to Rua dos Ingleses (Englishmen's Street), where it was located, and to the strong presence of the British community.
In the past, it was frequented by important figures of the city, being one of the most prestigious restaurants of the time.
After being transformed into a tea house and, later, into a banking institution, it was reopened in December 2018, maintaining its original charm and architecture.
It is located in the Building at Rua do Infante D. Henrique, No. 77-79, a property classified as being of Public Interest since 1984. The building is part of the cultural heritage protected by UNESCO.
Since its reopening, it has once again been considered one of the best restaurants in the city, preserving the tradition and elegance that has always characterized it.
