The Ferreira Borges Market is located in the heart of Porto, in the São Nicolau area. It is accessible from Praça do Infante D. Henrique, Rua de Ferreira Borges, Rua de Sousa Viterbo, and Rua Mouzinho da Silveira.
Built in 1885, the market was intended to replace the Mercado da Ribeira, but it never fulfilled this function, as merchants preferred to stay in the previous market.
Nowadays, the building is no longer a market and is used as a cultural space, better known as Hard Club. Concerts, exhibitions, book fairs, and other cultural events are organized here.
The Ferreira Borges Market was classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1982, due to its historical and architectural importance.
The building stands out for its typical 19th-century metal structure, an example of the industrial architecture of the time.
The market is close to important places such as the Infante D. Henrique Garden, where there is a statue of the navigator Infante D. Henrique, and the Palácio da Bolsa, one of the most visited buildings in Porto.
The market's name is a tribute to José Ferreira Borges, an important politician from Porto, involved in the implementation of the liberal regime in Portugal.
