Café Majestic is located on Rua de Santa Catarina, one of the busiest and most popular streets in Porto, in the parish of Santo Ildefonso.
Inaugurated on December 17, 1921, initially with the name "Elite", the café quickly became a meeting point for influential figures in the city. In 1922, the name changed to "Majestic", inspired by the elegant style of Paris.
The building is an excellent example of Art Nouveau, with a marble facade and undulating decorative elements. The interior decoration, with mirrors, lamps, and wooden details, creates a refined and nostalgic atmosphere. It is one of the most beautiful cafes in the world.
Over the years, the café has been frequented by personalities such as the poet José Régio, the sculptor José Rodrigues, and the philosopher Leonardo Coimbra. More recently, figures such as Portuguese presidents and even the writer J.K. Rowling have been present at the Majestic.
The café is the setting for various cultural activities, such as poetry recitals, piano concerts, and art exhibitions. It has also served as a setting for films and other artistic productions.
In 1983, Café Majestic was classified as a Property of Public Interest due to its historical and architectural relevance, and in 1994 it reopened after a restoration process that restored it to its original splendor.
It is said that J.K. Rowling, while living in Porto, worked on the first book of the "Harry Potter" saga at Café Majestic, which adds a special touch to the place for fans of the author.
When visiting the Majestic, tourists can enjoy a unique experience, where luxury and history meet in a welcoming environment. The café is an ideal place to relax, have a coffee, or try a traditional dish, while enjoying the refined atmosphere and its connection to Porto's cultural past.
