Quinta de Marques Gomes is located on the left bank of the Douro River, in Vila Nova de Gaia. The site occupies a vast property, extending over 36 hectares. Its privileged position offers extensive views reaching the mouth of the Douro and the Atlantic Ocean, with the city of Porto as a backdrop on the opposite side of the river.
This property is named after Manuel Marques Gomes, an entrepreneur and benefactor who lived between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 'quinta' was his property, reflecting the importance and scale of the large estates that characterized the riverside landscape of this area of Gaia.
At the heart of Quinta de Marques Gomes stands a mansion built at the end of the 19th century. This historic building, though currently uninhabited, features a remarkable design. It boasts numerous interior spaces distributed over three floors and, according to records, features worked ceilings and walls adorned with frescoes, testaments to its original decorative richness. The mansion is surrounded by landscaped areas and trees that contribute to its distinctive atmosphere.
One of the striking aspects of Quinta de Marques Gomes is its large expanse of green area. The 36 hectares of the property constitute a significant natural space next to the Douro estuary. This breadth allows for appreciation of the surrounding landscape, with the river's dynamics converging with the ocean and the silhouette of Porto city on the horizon.
