Quinta das Freiras is located in the town of Rio Tinto, integrated into the municipality of Gondomar. It is situated in the area known as Vale Flores, occupying a central position within the parish's urban fabric. This green space functions as a local landmark, easily accessible and integrated into the daily dynamics of the surrounding community.
The history of Quinta das Freiras dates back to a distant past, with its origins linked to the founding of the Monastery of São Cristóvão in the year 1062. The area where the quinta is located today was part of the lands associated with this ancient religious institution. Although the original monastery disappeared over the centuries, the memory of its presence remained associated with the site. It was this historical connection that, in later times, inspired the designation "Quinta das Freiras" for the property. In the 1960s, the land was acquired by the Municipal Council with the aim of transforming it into a public space dedicated to leisure and sports for the inhabitants.
Covering an area of approximately 4.5 hectares, Quinta das Freiras offers an urban park with wooded areas and a variety of facilities designed for active and passive leisure. Visitors will find areas dedicated to sports, including courts for games like tennis, a multi-purpose rink, and a circuit specifically designed for running or walking. In addition to the sports facilities, the park provides a peaceful environment in the heart of the urban area, ideal for enjoying the outdoors, socializing, or simply relaxing surrounded by nature.
