Matosinhos Beach is situated in the Matosinhos Sul area, within the locality and municipality of Matosinhos, stretching along the Costa Verde. This coastal area is characterized by its wide seafront, directly facing the Atlantic Ocean. The surroundings of the beach include a port area and an active fishing harbor, elements that historically influenced its formation. The imposing walls protecting the harbor entrance were essential, as by extending far into the sea, they interrupted the natural coastal erosion and allowed for the accumulation of sand that now forms this extensive beach.

With a remarkable expanse of white sand that can reach approximately 115,000 square meters, Matosinhos Beach offers a vast space, capable of accommodating a large number of visitors. Its sands are distinguished by their softness, in contrast to other beaches in the Porto region. The coastal structures created by the harbor walls not only contributed to the beach's formation and size but also provide some natural shelter against stronger winds and help to mitigate sea currents, making the waters calmer in certain areas.

Winter, particularly December, is known for providing more consistent and defined waves. During the summer months, the swell tends to be more moderate, which favors beginners in these activities. The water temperature remains cool throughout the year, directly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean.

Environment and Support Infrastructure

The atmosphere at Matosinhos Beach varies with the time of year. On warmer, sunny days, the beach takes on a dynamic atmosphere, attracting various age groups and nationalities who enjoy the vast sandy area. However, on less sunny days, the presence of the adjacent industrial zone becomes more apparent. For the convenience of its visitors, the beach provides public toilets and showers. There are also several parking areas nearby, facilitating access for those traveling by car.
