Praia da Lagoa-I is located in Aver-o-Mar, an area belonging to the municipality of Póvoa de Varzim, along the Atlantic coast. This stretch of sand is the northernmost portion of a larger cove, known as Praia da Lagoa.
Situated in an urban area, the beach is easily accessible and benefits from its proximity to a pedestrian promenade that follows the coastline, inviting visitors to enjoy the maritime landscape.
Praia da Lagoa-I is distinguished by its more compact stretch of light-colored sand. At its northern end, the beach is delimited by a natural rock formation, complemented by a small stone pier extending into the sea.
The tidal dynamics are an interesting aspect: during low tide, several submerged rocks are exposed, creating small temporary "islets." These rock formations provide natural pools, ideal for exploring marine life or for a calmer, more sheltered swim.
Although quite popular and lively during the summer months, Praia da Lagoa-I maintains a more tranquil atmosphere outside the bathing season. The conditions offered here are suitable for those looking for a place to relax by the sea and enjoy the sun.
To ensure the safety of bathers during peak periods, the beach has a lifeguard surveillance post.
