The Rose Garden is nestled within the vast Gardens of the Crystal Palace, one of the most notable green areas in the city of Porto. Situated in the Massarelos area, this location offers visitors a privileged perspective of the winding course of the Douro River and the urban landscape of the Invicta city, providing a serene environment and a captivating view.

The Rose Garden House

At the heart of this space lies the Rose Garden House, a building that originally served as the residence for the director of the Crystal Palace. Over time, this building acquired a new purpose, now hosting various protocol ceremonies and events. Its designation is precisely due to the abundance of rose bushes surrounding it, lending it a unique beauty and an unmistakable aroma, especially during flowering.

Adjacent to the Rose Garden House, a garden dedicated to the exuberance of roses extends. This pleasant green space underwent a careful requalification, which restored its former splendor, inviting contemplation and a tranquil stroll. The intervention included the renovation of paths and the improvement of the drainage system, as well as the restoration of walls, pergolas, and the introduction of topiary elements, which help revive the original image of this corner, making it a pleasant place to enjoy nature and quietude.

Artistic and Historical Legacy

The Rose Garden is not just a space of natural beauty, but also a repository of art and history. Many of the sculptural and architectural pieces that adorn the garden, such as fountains and decorative elements, have distinct origins. These were transported from the old Monteiro Moreira Palace, an 18th-century building that was located in Praça da Liberdade and which, for almost a century, housed the City Hall of Porto, before being demolished for the construction of Avenida dos Aliados. Among these pieces, the Pelican Fountain, the Putti and Goose Fountain, as well as two "fogaréu" elements and the pediment with the city's coat of arms, stand out, giving the Rose Garden a profound connection to Porto's urban memory and heritage.
