The Oriental Park of Porto City is located in the Lagarteiro area, in the city of Porto, following the final course of the Tinto River. This green space develops linearly in the eastern part of the city, integrating into the urban fabric and offering a unique perspective on the fluvial and urban landscape.
Its position within Porto's urban network allows visitors to enjoy a vast and serene natural environment, while remaining in close proximity to the city.
This park was designed by landscape architect Sidónio Pardal, with the purpose of transforming an initially irregular and compartmentalized area into a natural continuum. His vision sought to create a grassy and tree-lined space, punctuated by a network of paths, where moments of tranquility and contact with nature could be enjoyed.
The project aimed for a harmonious integration of the natural environment into urban life, resulting in a place with a remarkable aesthetic and landscape component.
The Oriental Park stands out for its natural component and the richness of its biodiversity. Maintaining the Tinto River in a healthy and unpolluted state is a central aspect, contributing to the ecological well-being of the site. Among the tree species present, the maritime pine, the cork oak, and the Portuguese oak are prominent.
An innovative project, dedicated to promoting the park's pollinators, aims to create conditions that attract and sustain insect communities. This is achieved through differentiated maintenance practices that encourage herbaceous flora diversity, underlining the park's commitment to sustainability and environmental education.
With a considerable extension, the Oriental Park offers an environment conducive to various outdoor activities. A shared cycle path runs through the space, inviting visitors to relaxed bike rides or walks, allowing them to explore its beauty and tranquility.
The park's profile, with a more bucolic and rural character, provides a serene counterpoint to urban dynamics. It is an ideal place for those seeking a green refuge within the city, where moments of quiet leisure can be spent.
