Prelada Park is located in the northern part of Porto, in the parish of Ramalde, between Carvalhido and the Circunvalação Road. The area is predominantly residential, with easy access from different parts of the city. Despite being close to busy roads, the park offers a secluded environment, with ample green spaces and a tranquil atmosphere.

Set on a plot of approximately 17 hectares, the space extends through wooded areas, historic gardens, and large lawn areas. The presence of the Via de Cintura Interna (Inner Ring Road) is mitigated by a pedestrian tunnel that connects the different sections of the park, allowing fluid circulation between areas separated by this road.

Memory and Heritage

Prelada Park incorporates part of the ancient Quinta da Prelada, whose origins date back to the 18th century. The noble house of the quinta, although unfinished, is one of the examples of the influence of the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni on Porto's heritage. Notable features include the granite buildings, the decorative elements of the main portal, and the classical organization of the surrounding gardens and woodland.

Over time, the space had different uses, from a rural property to a campsite, having belonged to the Noronha e Menezes family until it was donated, in 1904, to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto (Holy House of Mercy of Porto). The ensemble was classified as a Property of Public Interest, standing out for its architectural and landscape value.

Environment and Current Uses

The park is undergoing requalification to host various cultural, sports, and leisure functions. Part of the area will be occupied by thematic gardens, such as the future “Four Seasons Garden”, and by the enhancement of Casa da Prelada and its historic gardens, which are already partially restored.

One of the standout projects is the creation of an international-standard equestrian center, designed to host equestrian events and training. This facility will occupy the eastern part of the park, reserved for more specialized uses, while the remaining space remains accessible for walks, outdoor activities, and contact with nature.

Character and Atmosphere

Prelada Park is marked by a strong connection to the city's history and the region's landscape heritage. The wooded areas, the layout of the old gardens, and the preserved architectural elements create a serene environment, ideal for peaceful breaks and walks away from the urban pace.

It is a space where historical significance coexists with contemporary usage proposals, maintaining the identity of the old quinta while adapting to new forms of enjoyment and experience of the territory.
