These gardens are situated in the city of Porto, in the area known as Castelo do Queijo, extending along Avenida de Montevideu. Their privileged position offers a direct and continuous connection to the coastline, with the Atlantic Ocean in the background. It is an urban space where proximity to the sea defines its environment and the experience of those who walk through it.
The Gardens of Avenida de Montevideu invite visitors to a tranquil and contemplative walk by the sea. Filled with well-maintained vegetation, they offer benches for moments of rest, where one can enjoy the serenity of the environment and the sound of the waves. The presence of a pergola adds an architectural element to the space, providing shade and framing. At the end of the day, the landscape transforms with the vibrant hues of the sunset over the Atlantic, creating a scene of rare beauty.
These gardens preserve elements that tell part of the urban history of Porto and its seafront. Among them, a fountain designed by architect Manuel Marques, inaugurated in 1931, stands out as a point of artistic and architectural interest. Further along, in the extension of these green spaces, is the statue of the poet Luís de Camões. The creation and refurbishment of these gardens are part of a process of valorizing Porto's seafront, which occurred at the beginning of the 20th century, transforming the area into a space for leisure and enjoyment of the sea.
