A monument symbolizing municipal autonomy, built between the 17th and 18th centuries. Penafiel was elevated to city status in 1770.
Made of granite, it has a smooth column on top of a double base, with a round pinnacle and an iron weather vane with the cross of Christ.
It is located in the Municipal Square, next to the Church of Mercy.
Recognized as a National Monument since 1910, due to its historical importance.
