The Sara Moreira Urban Park is located in Ramada, an area of Santo Tirso, in the municipality of the same name. This space is cohesively integrated into the city's urban green structure, positioned alongside the Ave River. Its riverside front has undergone revitalization, complementing the surrounding natural landscape.
One of the features that enhances its accessibility is the Passeio das Margens do Ave (Ave Riverbanks Walkway), a route approximately 1400 meters long that establishes a continuous pedestrian and cycling connection along the river, bringing the park closer to the urban center.
Spanning over 96 thousand square meters, the Sara Moreira Urban Park is a space dominated by a dense forest of oaks and cork oaks, rising above the banks of the Ave River. The recovery and reconstitution of the river's riparian gallery were prioritized, ensuring bank stability and the preservation of the local ecosystem.
Throughout the park, extensive green areas resulting from the careful planting of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants, including riparian species, can be observed. The presence of a lake adds a scenic element, and the maintenance of the existing arboreal heritage, with many notable specimens, ensures a mature and welcoming natural environment.
The park offers a variety of options for those seeking leisure or outdoor physical activities. There are inviting pedestrian paths for walks and strolls, as well as areas dedicated to rest and socializing, including picnic zones.
For visitors who enjoy sports, the park features a synthetic turf football field and a multi-purpose sports court where futsal, basketball, tennis, and beach volleyball can be played. For a more informal workout, there is a fitness trail. Younger visitors will also find a playground with various play structures. Along the riverbanks, wooden fishing platforms invite the practice of sport and recreational fishing.
The Sara Moreira Urban Park is also a meeting point for art. The space hosts various sculptures that are part of the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture, a distinctive cultural aspect of Santo Tirso. These works, integrated into the landscape, enrich the visitor's experience, inviting contemplation and reflection.
Among the exhibited pieces, notable works include those by artists such as Ângela Ferreira, with a concrete and iron sculpture in the heart of the park, and Pierre Marie LeJeune, whose steel and stainless steel piece can be seen near the banks of the Ave. These artistic interventions transform the park into a place where nature and creative expression complement each other.
