Moreira Urban Park is located in Moreira, municipality of Maia, within the urban area known as Padrão de Moreira. Its strategic position, in the vicinity of important public buildings such as the Parish Council headquarters, facilitates its integration into the community's daily life and accessibility for residents and visitors. It is situated in an urban setting that benefits from a green space dedicated to leisure and connection with nature.

A Requalified Natural Legacy

This green space is the result of a careful intervention in an old woodland, composed of a diversity of evergreen and deciduous trees, traversed by a small stream. The requalification's main objective was to preserve the ecological and aesthetic essence of the place, valuing its natural identity. A significant part of the original vegetation, namely eucalyptus and acacias, was replaced by native species of greater ecological interest. Currently, the park features a renewed woodland, with the presence of cork oaks, Lusitanian oaks, and stone pines, recreating the characteristics of a native oak forest.

Sustainable and Interactive Design

In its design, Moreira Urban Park focused on using materials with lower environmental impact, such as wood and granite. Notably, wood from felled trees and shrubs was creatively reused and kept within the park for the construction of playground equipment and ground cover. This sustainable approach is also reflected in how the space was designed to promote interaction with nature, especially for the younger ones. The park invites exploration of textures, shadows, and scents, stimulating creativity and emotion in direct contact with the arboreal environment.

Leisure and Discovery Elements

The park was designed to offer various opportunities for socializing and enjoyment. There are pedestrian paths that connect to adjacent roads, facilitating circulation. Inside, various recreational elements designed for children and young people were integrated, challenging discovery and adventure. An old stone house, pre-existing on the site, was preserved in its original structure and adapted to function as a shelter and storage, now having an adjacent area designated for picnics. The stream, which once presented erosion problems, was also intervened with the construction of small weirs, improving drainage and the park's hydraulic dynamics, contributing to its scenic beauty and functionality.
