Parque Liberdade is located in the urban area of Marco de Canaveses, specifically in the São Nicolau zone. Its central position within the town of Marco gives it a prominent role as an easily accessible point and a significant green area in the heart of the city.
Designed as a true green lung, Parque Liberdade offers a vast area dedicated to nature and well-being. Spanning approximately 4.4 hectares, this space is distinguished by its remarkable diversity of tree species and vegetation, creating a tranquil and inviting environment for strolls and moments of relaxation.
The design of Parque Liberdade, authored by Marco de Canaveses-born architect Sérgio Pinto, was conceived to host various activities and serve as a meeting point. It integrates pedestrian paths inviting walks, areas equipped for children's enjoyment, and play zones. A spacious central square acts as a gathering point, facilitating interaction and conviviality among visitors. The use of granite in its construction reflects the identity and characteristic materials of the region.
Inaugurated on a symbolic date, Parque Liberdade is also a tribute to the ideals of freedom. This space holds particular value by honoring the Carnation Revolution. Within it, Salgueiro Maia Square is located, perpetuating the memory of a central figure of that historical moment and reinforcing the park's connection to democratic values.
