Avioso, São Pedro Park is situated in the Ribela area, within the locality of Castêlo da Maia, in the municipality of Maia. Covering an area of approximately 30 hectares, this natural space is a fundamental part of the Arquinho green corridor, a significant ecological structure that extends longitudinally throughout the municipality. Its strategic position makes it accessible and enhances the urban surroundings with a notable natural presence.

Natural Heritage

This park is the point of origin of the Avioso Stream, which joins other waterways to form the Arquinho Stream, the main tributary of the Leça River. The natural environment found here is remarkable for its diversity. Dense woods with native riparian species can be observed, such as willow and alder, thriving in humid and shady areas. On mid-slope areas, sparse woods of Pyrenean oak, cork oak, and maritime pine emerge. In the brighter plots with poor, dry soils where rocks outcrop, a scrubland of gorse, ferns, heather, carqueja, and broom develops.

This botanical richness provides shelter for various local fauna species, making the park a place of interest for wildlife observation. Among the animals inhabiting this ecosystem, notable species include the rabbit, common partridge, great tit, Eurasian jay, and dipper, contributing to the vitality and balance of the natural space.

Avioso, São Pedro Park is designed as a versatile space for leisure and informal sports practice. It features an extensive network of paths and walking trails, totaling 4.5 kilometers. These include three low-intensity interpretive routes, the Tower Route, the Forest Route, and the Stream Route, which invite visitors to a peaceful exploration of the landscape. For cycling enthusiasts, there are cycle paths that allow enjoyment of the park on two wheels, complemented by bicycle maintenance equipment.

The park's infrastructure enriches the visitor experience, featuring a beach volleyball court, a children's playground for the little ones, and an extensive lawn, ideal for relaxed social gatherings. Covered rest areas and a picnic area are available for comfortable breaks. A water mirror adds a scenic element to the environment, inviting contemplation.
