Paredes City Park is located in a central area of the town of Paredes, in the area known as Madalena. This green space is integrated into the urban environment, offering a direct connection with nature even while being in the heart of the city.
It is situated on the banks of the Ribeira de Sentiais, a tributary of the River Sousa, and is crossed by a small stream, which contributes to the serene and natural environment of the place.
Opened in July 2000, the City Park covers an area of approximately 2.5 hectares, establishing itself as a primary location for socialising and direct contact with nature. It is a space designed to offer a green refuge, inviting visitors to enjoy moments of leisure and tranquility.
Its expanse and diversity of environments provide a suitable setting for various activities, from a leisurely stroll to physical exercise, always in an open and inviting atmosphere.
The park is a true green lung, enriched by a significant diversity of flora. One can observe a variety of tree species, such as plane trees, oaks, and lime trees, which contribute to the scenic beauty and air quality. This rich vegetation creates an ecosystem that serves as a habitat for various local fauna species.
Among the vegetation and along the stream, the park hosts a variety of birds, such as the blackbird, the European robin, and various tit species, as well as small mammals like the common squirrel and the European hedgehog. For those seeking activity, the site offers areas equipped for fitness exercises, as well as dedicated areas for children, with play spaces.
In addition to its natural and recreational aspect, the Paredes City Park also integrates a cultural dimension. Along its path, it is possible to discover some of the works that are part of the Open Public Art Circuit, a project that spreads artistic manifestations throughout various points of the city. These art pieces enrich the visitor's experience, adding an element of discovery and contemplation during the stroll.
