The Anta da Aboboreira is a corridor dolmen, a funerary structure built about 5000 years ago, at the beginning of the 3rd millennium BC. It belongs to the Neo-Chalcolithic period.
Located in the Serra da Aboboreira, more specifically in the parish of Ovil, municipality of Baião.
This monument was classified as a National Monument in 1910, standing out as one of the main ones in the megalithic necropolis of the region.
The dolmen has a corridor oriented to the east, about 4.5 meters long, composed of 9 uprights (large vertical stones) of granite and a covering slab. In the past, traces of red paintings could be observed on one of the stones, but today they are invisible to the naked eye.
Some stones have engravings, with radiant and stylized shapes. Of particular note is a figure in the shape of a jar, the interpretation of which is still uncertain.
The monument was covered by a tumulus, an artificial hill that served to protect it. Part of the tumulus is still visible, although it is partially destroyed.
In 2006, the site underwent restorations and cleaning, with the removal of vegetation and lichens. Measures were also implemented to reinforce the structure, such as the introduction of a drainage system and protection of the soil around the monument.
