The Museum is a treasure trove of artifacts related to the cultivation of flax and corn, highlighting the importance of these crops in Portugal's rural past.
The Museum's collection has been assembled over the years, with emphasis on the 1990s. It covers Northern Portugal and includes dances, songs and instruments related to the work of flax and corn.
The Museum is divided into two main parts. One focuses on the corn cultivation cycle, offering a comprehensive overview of the process stages and the instruments used.
The other part presents the flax cycle, with demonstrations of the cultivation stages and associated instruments, such as spinning wheels, flax brakes, and heckles.
Visitors can appreciate a faithful representation of the daily life of a rustic house, including divisions, utensils, and typical costumes of the time.
In addition, the Museum houses a small core of curiosities, with pieces representing various facets of popular culture.
For an enriching experience, the Museum offers educational activities, such as the "From Millstone to Corn Biscuit" workshop, where children aged 6 or older can learn about eating habits and agricultural traditions while preparing corn biscuits.
To participate in educational activities, it is necessary to make an appointment at least one week in advance. Information and reservations can be obtained by phone 93 97 99 008 / muma@cm-matosinhos.pt or 22 95 40 207 (Rancho Folclórico de Padrão da Légua).
