Located in Miragaia, one of the historic areas of Porto, on a discreet street of Rua de Miragaia, it offers an opportunity to explore a less visited but historically rich location.
The name "Chafariz da Colher" (Spoon Fountain) is due to the fact that its construction, in 1491, was financed through a tax called "colher" (spoon), applied to food entering the city.
Built in granite, a traditional material from the region, this fountain is one of the oldest in Porto, reflecting the typical architecture of the time.
In the past, the water from this fountain was considered one of the best in the city, which made it quite popular among the inhabitants.
The fountain was rebuilt in 1629 and later restored in 1940. Currently, it is preserved as part of the historical heritage.
In 1938, it was classified as a Property of Public Interest, reinforcing its importance in the cultural and historical context of the city.
