Located in the beautiful Crystal Palace Gardens, in the city of Porto, it is a highly sought-after venue by both locals and visitors.
It was formerly known as Crystal Palace (19th century), then as Sports Pavilion, later as Rosa Mota Pavilion, and currently as Super Bock Arena, Rosa Mota Pavilion.
The current building was constructed in the 1950s on the site of the old Crystal Palace, inspired by London's Crystal Palace. It was designed to host sports and cultural events.
It was named after the Olympic athlete Rosa Mota in 1991, one of the greatest figures in Portuguese sports.
It has a rounded and imposing shape. It was designed by architect José Carlos Loureiro. The dome offers a 360-degree view over the city, accessible through guided tours to the top.
It is used for concerts, congresses, fairs, corporate events, and sports competitions such as handball, basketball, roller hockey, among others.
It can accommodate between 5,500 and over 8,000 people, depending on the type of event. The stands are retractable, allowing the space to be adapted as needed.
It includes a modern congress center on the lower floor, with several support rooms and an auditorium with capacity for hundreds of participants.
The complete renovation was finished in 2019. The interior was modernized with state-of-the-art technology, improved acoustics, comfort, and increased usability for various types of events.
The name “Super Bock Arena” results from a concession and sponsorship agreement. The venue also retains the name of the athlete Rosa Mota in homage to her career and connection to the city.
