The Lomar Rock Engravings are located in Lomar, in the parish of Luzim, within the municipality of Penafiel.
This set of rock art has almost 100 different engravings, carved into a granite rock that stands out from the ground.
The representations include foot shapes (pedamorphs), several small cavities (cupules), and some figures in the shape of dumbbells and circles.
The true meaning of these engravings is not yet known. Pedamorphs are often seen as a schematic representation of the human foot, possibly linked to ideas of walking or path.
There are several theories about the purpose of these engravings, including the possibility that they are related to religious practices, territory marking, or rites of passage.
The process of official recognition of the engravings by IGESPAR has been lengthy, with several interruptions in its completion.
The Lomar Rock Engravings are a unique attraction that offers a vision of prehistoric art and the culture of our ancestors, attracting those interested in history and archeology.
