Located in the city of Porto, this remarkable architectural and landscaped complex is situated in the Boavista area, specifically on Rua António Cardoso. Its location offers an atmosphere of serenity amidst Porto's urban setting, inviting a tranquil and contemplative visit.
The Palacete of the Viscount of Vilar de Allen is an emblematic work of the early 20th century, with its construction dating from the 1920s. It was commissioned by Joaquim Allen, the 3rd Viscount of Vilar de Allen, and the architectural project was undertaken by the renowned architect José Marques da Silva. The building reflects the opulence of the bourgeois architecture of the period, featuring an eclectic style in which neoclassical-inspired elements stand out. Its design is distinguished by a central floor plan that unfolds around a main hall, with façades notable for their symmetry and the presence of a chapel with direct access. Both the palacete and its gardens are classified as a Property of Public Interest, a testament to their historical and heritage value.
Surrounding the Palacete are gardens of great beauty, whose design reveals a clear English influence. This green space is an invitation to discovery, housing a remarkable botanical diversity. Among the various species, an imposing Virginia tulip tree stands out, rising to a height of approximately 31 meters. The garden is further enriched by several centenary trees and a vast and cherished collection of camellias, which add color and vibrancy throughout the seasons.
Integrated into the landscaped ensemble of the gardens, the Casa das Artes was designed and built in 1991, the work of the genius architect Eduardo Souto Moura. This contemporary structure harmoniously coexists with the classic ambiance of the palacete, functioning as a dynamic cultural center. The Casa das Artes regularly hosts a variety of events and activities, from art exhibitions to concerts and other artistic events, making the location a cultural hub in Porto.
