Praia Azul is located in Leça da Palmeira, a town belonging to the municipality of Matosinhos. This beach is situated in a coastal area that integrates into the urban and maritime landscape, with its front facing directly the Atlantic Ocean.
It is a point on the coast that develops within a cove, characterized by the presence of defining rock formations. Its position, just a few steps from the waterfront, makes it an accessible part of the area's coastal environment.
This beach stands out for its particular shape, which evokes that of a shell, a result of its configuration within a natural cove. The sandy area, approximately fifty meters long, is embraced by remarkable rock formations that extend along the coast, both on land and towards the sea, uniquely shaping its beauty.
The rocks flanking Praia Azul give it a distinctive environment, making it visibly sheltered from the wind compared to other stretches of the coast. The presence of these rock structures in the sea also acts as a natural barrier, attenuating the intensity of the waves and contributing to a more secluded setting.
The waters bathing Praia Azul are those of the vast Atlantic Ocean, frequently displaying dynamic movement. This characteristic makes the beach suitable for practicing water sports that take advantage of the waves, such as surfing or bodyboarding, where the ocean's energy is a constant.
Despite the dynamic waves, the natural protection offered by the cove's rocks can, at certain times, provide calmer conditions for bathers. However, it is always prudent to observe the varying sea conditions and exercise extra caution while swimming.
