On October 30, 1904, a significant moment for the space was the inauguration of the statue honoring António Soares dos Reis, giving the garden its name and consolidating its character.

Tribute to the Sculptor

The garden is dedicated to the memory of the notable sculptor António Soares dos Reis. This artist, a prominent figure in Portuguese art, was born precisely in this parish of Mafamude. In the center of the garden, there is a statue in his honor, a work sculpted by Teixeira Lopes, who was his disciple, serving as a focal point and a reminder of the sculptor's connection to the land.

Green Environment
