Located in the Antas area, a well-established and bustling part of the city of Porto, this garden is harmoniously integrated into the urban fabric. Its positioning allows for easy access, offering a haven of tranquility in the heart of a dynamic urban environment.
Created in 1948, this green space was initially known as Jardim da Praça Velasquez (Velasquez Square Garden), a name by which it is still remembered by many older residents of Porto. Its current name, Jardim da Praça de Francisco Sá Carneiro (Francisco Sá Carneiro Square Garden), was assigned in 1981, to honor the memory of Francisco Sá Carneiro. This prominent figure in Portuguese politics, who served as Prime Minister, was born in Porto and is commemorated here through this notable public space.
The garden features a circular design, characterized by a vast green area that invites strolling and leisure. At its center, a sculpture dedicated to Francisco Sá Carneiro stands out, marking the tribute to the politician. The space is ideal for a relaxing walk or for enjoying moments of rest, offering grassy areas and paths for outdoor activities. The presence of lush trees ensures shaded spots, complemented by benches that provide rest and allow visitors to appreciate the serenity the garden offers, despite being surrounded by the city's rhythm.
