Jardim Basílio Teles is located in the heart of the city of Matosinhos, integrated into the urbanization that bears its name. It is situated in a central and dynamic area, surrounded by buildings that characterize the local urban environment.
This green space is partially bordered by an elegant water feature and an avenue of poplars, elements that separate it from the City Hall building, contributing to its distinctive atmosphere in the town center.
Upon entering Jardim Basílio Teles, visitors discover a predominantly wooded space, inviting tranquility. Several paths wind through the vegetation, leading to various seating areas, ideal for a moment of rest or reading.
In the center of the garden, a bandstand stands out, an architectural element that evokes the tradition of public gardens, and a serene lake, which adds a point of scenic interest. There is also an area dedicated to younger visitors, with a playground that provides moments of leisure.
Jardim Basílio Teles is notable for its rich botanical diversity, harboring numerous species of ornamental plants that contribute to the beauty and freshness of the environment. Walking along its paths, it is possible to admire large trees, such as the imposing plane trees, which line some of the walkways, offering shade and grandeur.
Among the vast collection of arboreal and shrub species are lime trees, horse chestnuts, and black locusts, along with several palm trees and flowering shrubs, such as camellias and rhododendrons. This variety gives the garden a green and relaxing atmosphere, ideal for a break from the urban routine.
The garden pays tribute to Basílio Teles, an illustrious figure from Matosinhos, a professor, philosopher, and writer (1853-1923), through a statue that perpetuates his memory and legacy on the site.
In addition to its scenic and historical value, Jardim Basílio Teles is a meeting point and a hub of cultural life in the city. Regularly, on the fourth Sunday of each month, the space hosts the Antiques and Collectibles Fair, transforming into a stage of activity and allowing visitors to explore objects with history.
