The Main Church of Vandoma stands in the welcoming eponymous locality, an integral part of the municipality of Paredes. Its presence is discreet yet noticeable within the village's urban fabric, marking a point of reference and tranquility in its surroundings, inviting one to pause and observe its structure and environment.
Externally, the Main Church of Vandoma reveals a Neoclassical facade, characterized by its simplicity and restraint. Rectangular doors and windows are harmoniously distributed, bestowing a sober dignity upon the building. The structure is crowned by a square-based bell tower, which rises discreetly, punctuating the local landscape.
The interior of the temple surprises with its contrast to the exterior modesty. Inside, the richness of the Baroque carving takes prominence, especially on the main altar. This ornamentation, often gilded and crafted from carved wood, creates a visual focal point of great beauty and expressiveness, balancing the Neoclassical sobriety with the artistic exuberance of the Baroque period.
The history of the church is intertwined with the memories and legends that endure in the community of Vandoma. It is said that the granite, an abundant rock material in the region and used in its construction, was brought from "lugar do Muro" (place of the Wall), associated with ancient presences in the area, possibly dating back to Moorish times.
Oral tradition preserves the idea that the current church may have succeeded an earlier temple, located at "lugar do Muro," where remnants, such as an old churchyard and a cemetery, can still be identified today. It is said that, with the ruin of that ancestral edifice, a symbolic stone was transported from there to the current site, marking the birth of the Church of Santa Eulália and ensuring the continuity of faith in Vandoma.
