The Arcozelo Parish Church is located in the town of Arcozelo, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia. It is situated in the traditional church square, a space that historically serves as a central meeting point for the community. This location offers a serene and typical atmosphere of a Portuguese parish.
This temple boasts a history spanning several centuries. Its origins date back to a period between the late 12th century and the early 13th century, making it one of the oldest constructions in the region. Its long-standing existence makes it a witness to the evolution and life of the Arcozelo parish.
The church stands out for its more modest architecture, with a rectangular plan that defines its main structure. One of its distinctive elements is the quadrangular tower, which rises on the left side of the building. Behind the tower is the sacristy. The temple's façade captivates the eye with its full covering of azulejos, which add color and a touch of traditional Portuguese art. The exterior space, known as the churchyard, was once a cemetery, giving it an additional layer of historical memory and significance. Internally, the church is composed of a single nave, offering a simple and inviting space.
