The Church of São Brás is located in the heart of Baguim do Monte, a locality in the municipality of Gondomar. It stands in a square that shares its name, giving it a central presence in the Outeiro area. Its location allows visitors to enjoy an environment that combines the serenity of a place of worship with the daily life of the surrounding community.
This temple carries with it a history that dates back to time immemorial, as engraved on its own facade. The church we can observe today resulted from a significant rebuilding process, completed in the year 1885. This work was driven by the effort and dedication of benefactors and a local community known as the “mezários”, who contributed to its renovation and perpetuation in Outeiro.
The facade of the Church of São Brás features distinct elements that deserve attention. The building stands out for its single bell tower, positioned on the left side of the main portal. Above the entrance, an inscription carved in stone offers an essential historical record: "CAPELLA DE S. BRAZ NO LOGAR DO OUTEIRO EXISTE DESDE TEMPOS EMMEMORAVEIS REEDIFICADA PELOS MEZARIOS E BEMFEITORES EM 1885". This particularity invites visitors to reflect on the enduring presence and resilience of this place of worship throughout the centuries.
