History and Origins

The history of this complex dates back to the 18th century. The construction of the current Chapel of Saint Francis began after the demolition of a previous chapel in 1734, with the new one being consecrated in the year 1743. Shortly thereafter, and at the request of the Third Order of Saint Francis, the Hospice House was built, an essential complement to the life and work of the brotherhood, reflecting its importance in the community.

Architectural Features and Interior

The architectural complex, comprising the Chapel and the Hospice House, reveals a design with a rectangular plan, characteristic of many religious and support buildings of the era. The chapel's facade is imposing, with a prominent portal and carefully designed windows, giving it a remarkable presence. Inside, the splendour of the gilded and polychrome woodcarving captivates the eye, especially visible in the side altarpieces and the imposing main altarpiece, the latter marked by the neoclassical style that defines much of the sacred decoration of the period.

The Churchyard Environment

The space surrounding the Chapel and the Hospice House is enclosed by a discreet wall, creating an atmosphere of contemplation. In the churchyard, a stone cross dated 1992 evokes the local faith, while other decorative elements, such as the monument dedicated to Saint Sebastian, enrich the site's atmosphere.
