The Fórum da Maia is located in the City of Maia, integrating into the urban area of Brandinhães. Its central location within the city's fabric grants it a prominent role in the daily life and cultural dynamics of Maia.
Conceived in the 1980s and inaugurated in 1991, the Fórum da Maia resulted from the vision of architects José Carlos Loureiro and Luís Pádua Ramos. This architectural work was designed to be a pillar of the municipality's cultural policy, reflecting the importance attributed to art and its diverse forms of expression as fundamental elements for the community.
This cultural center is a multifunctional complex, designed with different complementary areas, each with its specific purpose. It includes two auditoriums, one larger with a capacity for 614 seats and another more intimate one with 138 seats, ideal for performances and conferences. In addition to these, the Fórum features the Centr'Arte gallery, dedicated to exhibitions, an outdoor amphitheater for open-air events, and the Café Concerto space. The Municipal Library of Maia is also housed in one of the wings of this building, enriching the cultural and educational offerings of the venue.
Throughout the year, the Fórum da Maia establishes itself as a vibrant stage for important cultural events, consolidating its status as one of the main hubs of artistic activity in the region. Among the significant festivals it hosts annually, the International Festival of Comic Theater and the prestigious photojournalism exhibition World Press Photo stand out, attracting visitors and culture enthusiasts.
