The Arch Bridge is a Romanesque structure of great historical and architectural value, composed of a single, slightly pointed arch, inspired by Gothic bridges. Its trestle deck is a robust construction that crosses the Ovelha River.
Located in an area surrounded by nature, the bridge is a great spot to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the countryside, with relaxing views over the river and local vegetation. Ideal for those seeking a retreat in nature.
Access to the bridge can be difficult, especially on rainy days, with dirt roads and some in poor condition. Caution is advised for vehicles that are not 4x4s. However, there are two roads that allow you to reach the banks of the river.
The area is perfect for picnics and relaxation. During the warmer months, it is common to see visitors bathing in the cold, clear waters of the Ovelha River, making the place popular among those who enjoy outdoor activities.
The bridge is part of the Romanesque Route and has considerable historical importance, being a testament to the architecture of the time and its resistance over the centuries. Furthermore, it is mentioned as a place where relevant events occurred during the French invasions.
The bridge has been the subject of recent restorations, which guarantees its preservation. However, it is not possible to cross it by car, as it is currently used only by pedestrians and cyclists.
Wear comfortable shoes, especially if you intend to explore the trails or the banks of the river. There are no services nearby, so it is recommended to bring food and water. The place is great for families and small groups who want to spend a peaceful day outdoors.
