Originally, it was situated in the entrance hall of the old City Hall building (Paços do Concelho) in Praça da Liberdade.

When the original building was demolished in the early 20th century to make way for a new urban configuration of the city, this fountain was carefully preserved. Its relocation to the Rose Garden ensured its continuity as a testament to the past, allowing today's visitors to appreciate it in a different setting, yet equally relevant to Porto's memory and the history of its architecture.
