The Arco Bridge is a Romanesque bridge located over the Ovelha River, in Folhada, in the municipality of Marco de Canaveses.
Composed of a single, slightly pointed arch of great dimensions, it is an impressive example of medieval architecture. Its trestle deck is inspired by Gothic bridges.
It is surrounded by a stunning natural landscape, with clear waters and typical vegetation of the northern region. The place is ideal for outdoor activities such as picnics, hikes, and swimming in the river.
It is not possible to cross the bridge by car, as it is pedestrian-only. Access can be made by dirt roads, with some degree of difficulty, especially on rainy days, making 4x4 vehicles advisable.
In addition to its beauty, the bridge is an important landmark on the Route of the Romanesque, witnessing the ancient architecture of the region.
During the summer, many visitors take advantage of the area to swim in the cool waters of the Ovelha River, relax in the shade, and explore the natural environment. It is also an excellent opportunity to take photographs.
The bridge is well-preserved and is the subject of continuous care. There is a small river beach nearby, which makes the place even more appealing for those looking to relax in nature.
