Situated on Rua Guerra Junqueiro, in the very heart of Boavista, the school is part of a dynamic urban environment. A Centenary and Intercultural Legacy

Founded on November 18, 1901, the German School of Porto originated from the initiative of Pastor Boit of Lisbon, with the support of the local German Evangelical community and financial aid from the Imperial German Government. Initially housed in a rented building on Rua da Restauração, Pastor Martin Richter assumed its direction in the early years. From its inception, the school valued the Portuguese language and culture, integrating national teachers for the teaching of Portuguese History and Geography as early as 1910. The institution faced a period of closure during World War I, when German citizens were affected, but reopened its doors in May 1922, reaffirming its presence in the city.

Bridge Between Cultures and Educational Excellence

The German School of Porto defines itself as a "meeting school", actively promoting openness and tolerance in relationships between people from different cultures. This philosophy is reflected in the composition of its student body, where a large majority are of Portuguese nationality, coexisting with German students and those of other origins, enriching the daily environment. The school is recognized for its quality of education, bearing the seal of "Excellent German School Abroad". It participates in important events, such as Sportbegegnung, which gathers German schools from the Iberian Peninsula for sports competitions, and Jugend Musiziert, a music competition that promotes young talent. It also maintains an exchange program with Germany, providing students with the opportunity to experience other cultures and broaden their horizons.
