Located in the parish of Cedofeita, in Porto, this kiosk was a striking presence in Mouzinho de Albuquerque Square for over 70 years.
The kiosk was authorized in 1925 for the sale of tobacco and newspapers, with its initial owner being António Baltazar. It was located in the northwest area of the square, aligned with Rua de 5 de Outubro.
From 1993, the management of the space passed to José Soares, and later to his heirs. In 2001, the kiosk was sold to the Porto City Council.
After being dismantled in 2005 for restoration, the original kiosk deteriorated and was not recovered.
The City Council created five replicas of the kiosk, which are now installed on Avenida dos Aliados, Praça da Liberdade, and Praça Almeida Garrett.
The original kiosk was classified as a Property of Municipal Interest in 1996, but this classification was revoked in 2020 due to its extinction.
The kiosk had an exotic wood structure, painted dark green, with an octagonal design and oriental details. It had a small warehouse and was based on an octagonal granite base.
The openings were white wooden guillotine windows, decorated with delicate designs and colored glass. It also featured polychrome tile friezes along the top and bottom of the windows. The original tiles are stored in the City Council's Materials Bank.
