This church is a landmark of the city of Porto, dedicated to Our Lady of Lapa. Its construction began in 1756 and was only completed in 1863, due to several interruptions over time. The church combines Rococo and Neoclassical architectural styles.
Inside the church, in the Main Chapel, is the heart of King D. Pedro IV, which was donated to the Brotherhood of Lapa. This is one of the most symbolic elements of the space and an important historical attraction.
Installed in 1995, this organ is one of the church's greatest jewels, weighing 32 tons and standing 15 meters tall. It is considered one of the best in the Iberian Peninsula and is used in various concerts promoted by the church.
Founded in response to a cholera epidemic, it is the oldest cemetery in the Romantic style in Portugal. It houses magnificent funerary chapels and is considered a "museum of death" due to its valuable funerary art. Illustrious figures such as writers, artists, and other personalities from Porto's history are buried here.
The college, conceived in the 18th century, was one of the first educational institutions in Porto. Despite having gone through various phases, it was important in the education of personalities such as Eça de Queirós and Ramalho Ortigão.
Built between 1902 and 1904, it was an old dream of the Brotherhood, realized thanks to the generosity of benefactors. The hospital is a symbol of the Brotherhood's social mission, which extended beyond the church.
