Castro dos Arados is located in the village of Magrelos, part of the municipality of Marco de Canaveses. This site stands on a naturally elevated position, offering a tranquil environment and a comprehensive perspective over the surrounding area, inviting a calm observation of the rural landscape.
This archaeological site preserves the remains of an ancient fortified settlement, whose history spans from the Iron Age to the Roman era. When visiting Castro dos Arados, one has the opportunity to contemplate a space that was inhabited by ancestral communities, who sought shelter and conditions for their daily life here. It is a testament to the millennial human occupation in the region.
At Castro dos Arados, it is possible to observe the outlines and foundations of the ancient constructions. Notable are the two lines of wall that, in times past, surrounded and protected the settlement, demonstrating the defensive techniques of the era. Inside the walled area, one can identify the foundations of various circular-shaped houses, which allows for imagining the daily organization of the populations who lived here and the layout of their dwellings.
