The António Carneiro House-Studio is located in the city of Porto, more precisely on Rua António Carneiro. This street is part of the area known as Bom Retiro, within the Bonfim parish. It is an urban area, characteristic of the city's expansion.
This building had a unique origin. It was designed and built to be the residence and workplace of the painter António Carneiro. Its construction dates back to the 1920s, having been financed with the support of an admirer of the artist.
The house served as a home and studio not only for António Carneiro but also for his son Carlos Carneiro, who followed in his father's footsteps in painting, and for his other son, Cláudio Carneiro, a renowned composer. This house was, therefore, a space of artistic creation across generations of the family.
Today, the António Carneiro House-Studio functions as a museum dedicated to the work of this important Porto painter. The space, which was once his living and creative environment, houses a significant collection of his works.
Among the works that can be appreciated, notable paintings include "A Vida" (Life), "Camões", and various representations of church interiors, offering visitors a perspective on António Carneiro's themes and style.
