This temple stands in the Fontiela urbanization, in Coronado, Trofa municipality. Located on a slight hill, the chapel offers a distinct view of the rural and peri-urban landscape, where fields and landscaped areas alternate with scattered dwellings.
The tranquil surroundings invite a leisurely visit, allowing one to appreciate the discreet presence of this historic building within the context of local daily life.
Although considered a secondary temple compared to the neighboring parish church, the chapel played a central role in the lives of the surrounding communities. The festivities in honor of Saint Eulalia, celebrated annually on the first Sunday after August 8th (in odd-numbered years), are intertwined with the region's agricultural and religious calendar.
On these occasions, believers gather to fulfill vows, invoke blessings, and participate in rites that combine devotional practices with popular gatherings, reinforcing bonds of faith and tradition.
The building features a simple form: a rectangular main body adjoined by a quadrangular sacristy. On the front elevation, the door, topped by a pediment, alternates with two side windows, the “visitadores” always open so that pilgrims can see the image of Saint Eulalia from the outside.
Inside, the full tile cladding, a result of recent restorations, replaces carved wood and altarpieces, lending luminosity to the space. The Risen Christ is featured on the main altar, while, in the chancel, the image of Saint Eulalia holds a palm (emblem of her martyrdom) and a bunch of grapes, a unique symbol that comes alive in the procession with real grapes.
