The Paulo Cunha e Silva CAMPUS is located in the Leal urbanisation area, in Porto, a district that reflects the city's urban vitality. Situated on Travessa dos Campos, it occupies the facilities of a former school, Escola EB José Gomes Ferreira. Its central position, close to well-known landmarks such as Praça do Marquês and Rua Bonjardim, integrates it harmoniously into the urban fabric of Porto, making it accessible and embedded in the local dynamic.

A Revitalized Legacy

Inaugurated on June 9, 2021, the Paulo Cunha e Silva CAMPUS pays tribute to the city's late Councillor for Culture, whose name it adopts. This space was born from the transformation of a former school, converted into a vibrant centre dedicated to the performing arts. The initiative aimed to address a felt need for suitable venues for artistic practice, research, and development in Porto, giving new life to a building with history and redefining its purpose.

The Heart of the Performing Arts

This CAMPUS is a meeting and creation point for the artistic community. It is designed as a safe environment for research and practice in the performing arts, promoting the sharing of time and space among artists. Here, new approaches to artistic formats and production methods are encouraged, in a spirit of care and sustainability. Visitors may, at specific times, have the opportunity to glimpse the ongoing creative process, such as open rehearsals, conversations with artists, or classes for professionals, offering a unique perspective on the work developed. The venue also houses a Performing Arts Library, with free access, which expands over time and with use, enriching its role as a cultural hub.

Design and Identity

The building, with its 900 square meters spread over two floors, includes studios, a production room, and social areas, such as a garden and courtyards. Its visual identity reflects the inherent dynamism of the space, with signage that plays with the movement of numbers on the studio doors and walls. The "paperless" approach to its communication and programming underscores its contemporary and digital nature. This combination of functionality and expressive design creates an environment that is both welcoming and stimulating, designed to make artists feel truly at home and for the public to appreciate the vitality of artistic creation.
