Church of São Francisco de Azurara, located in Azurara, Vila do Conde, Portugal.
The temple was completely rebuilt in the 18th century, being an important religious building in the region.
It has a Latin cross plan, with a single nave and a rectangular main chapel. The main facade stands out for a galilee with three arches and a shield of the Order in the central arch. The top is finished by a pediment with a cross.
Inside, there are altars in gilded wood carvings, a choir stall, and a crystal urn that houses the relics of Saint Donatus, the patron saint of fishermen and seafarers.
A remarkable construction, decorated with high-quality carvings and where the body of Saint Donatus is located, transported from Rome in the 18th century.
The church is surrounded by cultivated fields and is situated in an elevated area that offers views over Azurara.
Access to the church is via a side street from a public road.
It is a place of worship and devotion, attracting many visitors and devotees throughout the year.
